I played a good bit on Sunday and didn't run across a great shield. The best I found was a blue one.

Saw a ton of shields drop, but didn't see anything better that what I have which really isn't that good.

Thinking about picking this game up. Do you loot gear on top of guns and other stuff. Also, should i get for PC or XBOX? How does the loot tables work? I played a lot of WoW and GW2 is it somewhat similar? just FPS instead of TPS?

You loot everything. Guns, shields, class mods, ammo, etc. There's literally hundreds of thousands of guns, though most are variations of the same gun with different stats. The guns are all color coded by rarity.

Update.
Finished playthrough 1 with a gunzerker.
Went straight into playthrough 2 with an Assassin. Sniping is more my speed.
Love the game. Only complaint would be the skill trees maybe need some tweaking. Lots of worthless skills. Or so it seems in the initial difficulty.
Didn't even need to use gunzerking that often.
Really can't recommend this one enough. Plenty of action and a good story with twisted humor.
Don't let the cartoon graphics turn you off. You get over that in about 3 minutes.
Buy this game and play it NOW!

I love the game. Just wish I could find people to play with. Wish it was more multiplayer than single player.
