I played until EQ came out and then I totally dropped UO and never looked back. The First person view in EQ was the tits back then because it blew away the top down look of UO.

hhahahha didn't expect anyone here to be former UO vets. The game was more popular than I thought.

I also played Hybrid and am currently playing on In Por Yelm.

So much nostalgia

SWG
EQ2
Warhammer
WoW
Planetside
LOTRO
COH/COV

UO was/is probably the best MMO of all time. All types of players were thrown into the same environment. If someone wanted to be relatively safe, they could stay in towns and make deals there. If someone wanted to take a risk and go outside of town, they could find safety in numbers, or just wing it.

Also, I hate how almost every other MMO uses the "level" system to gain skills... pretty dumb. UO's independent point gain for each skill and stat is a great system that makes sense.

Let's see what KOTR and Blizzard's Titan have to say!

I didn't know IPY was back up? I thought it had went down some time ago. In any case, I like hybrid because of (1) the amount of players -- was ~200 users at most times and more at peak about a year ago, (2) it incorporates some of the newer OSI stuff while not having felucca crap, and (3) it has some of its own mods that make it worthwhile. Anyway, I go on MMO kicks, and usually UO is the answer. I've done LOTRO and got tired of it and quit before the mines of moria expansion. I played wow for a time. I plan on playing KOTR when it comes out and I am holding off on using my MMO energies until it does. I'll just continue playing cs 1.6 (wc3ft mod only) for the time being. I honestly dont think an updated 'UO' type game would survive today. Most people are too scared to PvP in MMOs because of the consequences unless you do something like LOTRO did. The majority of MMO players would rather grind and be safe knowing they can beat the predictable NPCs or monsters. Just look at OSI with the felucca crap.

yeah man IPY went back up yesterday. 1100 players active on it.

I agree, they need to just release a classic server I think it would gain so much popularity

Yes, I had a character in that guild back on the old IPY.

Are you saying that IPY has 1100 active players on it after just 1 day of uptime? That's crazy.

Most people don't want to play a game like that now. The only reason they played Ultima was because it was their only option.

UO was the tits. Felucca/Trammel killed it.

People are giving up excitement in the game for safety/security these days. Its human nature.

I played it and The Realms between the fall of Neverwinter Nights and EQ's beta. It was great fun and far ahead of its day.
