I've been living in the burbs for years now and I rarely go out because I don't feel like paying the $40-80 total for transportation to NOLA on top of drink prices. I would if a bunch of my friends were single, but we're all mid 30's and most are locked down.

So I'm looking for some good places in the western suburbs to have a couple of drinks on Friday or Saturday nights between 5PM and 9PM before going home and drinking myself stupid. Preferably no farther north than Veterans and definitely not as far west as Kenner (otherwise I may as well go Uptown). I work around Causeway/Vets and live around Elmwood, so close to those areas would be swell. I seriously haven't found a decent bar for youngish professionals. Looking for a place that doesn't have Disturbed or Creed or some other shite band blaring with a bunch of doobrahs reeking of Axe body spray.

I have no recommendations from personal experience but I have a friend who swears by Colby's Cocktails bar.

Cafe Busdriver, Winston's, Mizado, Martins wine (early), Lagers...none are that great honestly.

Uber is cheaper...check it out.

Haven't been in a long time, but the Mill back around River Oaks used to be decent.

Rivershack Tavern on River Rosd has halfway decent food and a serviceable beer selection. They host crawfish boils and have live music almost every night. It's one of the more authentic-feeling venues in the Harahan/Elmwood area.

I'll second the Rivershack. And it's smoke-free, if that matters to you.

Yeah I liked the Mill when I used to work in that area. On occasion it would get to smokey. Damn cheap drink prices for sure.
Winstons, River Shack, and Lagers are other good suggestions.
So many Metairie bars are just trashy and too smokey.

World of beer in Metairie be closed. I did like the set up in there, just never made time for more than the one visit I took.
Wanted to like Martines since they pushed the idea of them beings a craft cocktail bar. Stopped in early one evening and ended up with a crappy old fashion and being surrounded by smokers, including the bartender
