Thinking about trying this place soon. Will it be worth it?

Friend,
It is a good Italian restaurant, but not nearly what Impastato’s is.
Refer to TulaneLSU’s Top 10 dishes at Mosca’s

Was my favorite when I lived in the area. Believe it was cash only if I remember correctly.

I have been a bunch of times. It is in Waggaman, not Westwego.
I love the food but the reason we don't go there more often is because we can cook most of their specialties as good or better than they can. Shrimp Mosca, Oysters Mosca, Chicken a la Grande. All delicious.

I last went in the 90’s.
Don’t recall much, but it was light years better than Impastato’s.

And bring cash. They don't take plastic----at least they didn't the few times I've been there.

Been many times, not better or worse than Impastato's, very different. It is a great experience, it is like taking a time machine back 50 years, and not just the food. The building, the aromas, the service.

It is awesome. Go with at least four people to try everything. It's classic family style.

Unpopular opinion but to me, it's nothing special.
Food not bad but nothing on the menu is worth the drive.
I find it to be more of a novelty.

We went a few months ago. 100% cash only, and we weren't impressed that much with the food. No idea how they received a James Beard award for best regional food. It was a strange "family style" setup that no one in our party of 6 adults enjoyed.
Oysters Mosca, their signature dish, wasn't all that great.
The Chicken a La Grande was good, but not amazing.
One thing everyone did notice was that there were only about 30 people inside the restaurant, but at least 40 cars parked outside. Did we miss the back room where the mafia hangs out?
We all agreed that we've had much better meals at both Impasados and Vincent's.

I agree. It's been a long arse time since I've been, but I think the love is the general sense of the history and the somewhat big group/table sharing aspect of it.
The pricing was pretty high for a place in a crappy building in BFE.
The cash only policy is a real deal killer for me. Screw that for a place like this.

Friend,
You are off base here. Impastato’s is trash. It’s probably one of the worst Italian restaurants I’ve ever been to.

It lives off of its history. Without the mafia connection, no one would know it exists.
Tulanelsu going there must have hurt his soul considering his disdain for the mob

It is funny to me when people say this about a classic restaurant. I understand some people don't appreciate what Mosca's has to offer, we all have different tastes. But a great restaurant is much more than food, it puts you in a place to experience the timelessness of a great culinary history.
Other places can do this, when we dress for the occasion and step into Antoine's I feel like I am in 1890. Things slow down for a bit, cellphones disappear, your waiter is the conductor to a trip back in history. I get a lot for my money in places like this.

I and my boss were at the loan closing for Impastato’s. We were the lenders. I ate there several years ago for the first time, very surprised it was still open. It was very nice and food was great.
