I haven't opened mine yet since I was dissappointed with the Old Blowhard I bought. Supposedly Rhetoric is the best of the 3 released so far though.

Very nice haul. What's the deal with that heaven hill ss? Gift shop only?

Did you go to KY just for the festival?

Yea, gift shop only. I'm not a HH fan, but they had a special tour up there where you could sample that, Evan Williams 23 y/o single barrel, a bottle in bond and a William heavenhill 14 year old. That SS was by far the best. I had read a write up on it in Whiskey Advocate actually.
And yea, drove up from Lafayette Thursday over night and drove back today. We went 2 years ago and were able to get a bunch of steals, but this year everything was picked over pretty well. Four Roses had all 10 recipes out at barrel strength for purchase and I was able to get some signed stuff and ETL we haven't had around here in a while.

It was entertaining to watch an auction where signed bottles of Makers went for over $350 and a 20 y/o Pappy went for over $1100.

It wasn't that bad coming back, right at 13 hours. It was brutal driving up all night after working all day, but still worth it. 2 years ago was well worth it. There were literally cases of Four Roses LE 2012 bottles, all of Willett's selection, Parker heritage, all kinds of crap.

I guess I need to look into this for next year. I've been wanting to go tour the distilleries but it'd be nice to go during the festival.

The best time to go, just based on the releases they do for it and all of the releases we have coming down our way soon.

Welcome from laffy as well. Definetly want to make that trip up to KY!

As for the orphans I love barter and rhetoric! I like to have the barter then follow with rhetoric...actualy did that tonoght...and last night. Old blowhard was ok but I think the other two are worth it. That's me tho...

Link for those interested in going

Deadbird, which events did yall buy tickets for? Theres allot of good stuff going on in those few days.

I'd definitely want to do the allstart sampler with all the master distillers and the mixed drink contests.

Where do yall stay at when in Bardstown? Theres nice hoels in the area?

We did a few over the last couple trips. We've done Boots and Bourbon - wasn't bad at all, Bourbon, cigars and Jazz - had a really good time and lots to drink, Bourbon Cocktail Mixology - had a good time there too with some good and some terrible drinks, All-star Sampler - had a good time as well (although I'll explain more on this in a second) and the Sip and Savor - not worth it in my opinion.
Also dos the Barrel Relay and Master's Auction - both are free and worth making it too.
The All-Star Sampler was worth it, but the master distillers all go to a local liquor store at various times to sign bottles and talk with everyone. So we skipped it this year and still got some stuff signed.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn. It's your nicest option in town and the distillers have done events in there as well. But there is a Comfort Inn as well and some cheap motels. But just a heads up, every single room in town gets booked and early. So start planning and booking a long ways out. It's literally like 55k people descending on Ville Platte for half a week.

Thanks for the info, appreciate it. Did y'all visit the distilleries while there? How far are most distilleries from bardstown?

How far ahead do you usually book your room?
