I been wearing out the 107/12 mix...so good! I also have not been to the store in a bit so I have depleted my daily pours quite a bit...

Educate me, fellas. At my last distillery tour I was told that holding bottles for years had little to no effect on flavor. The aging happens in barrels. That's where your flavors develop.

As a beer guy, I know that aging in a bottle can happen depending on what you're talking about. Obviously in IPAs hops fade. In BBA Stouts and such the booze can mellow and give more depth. In your live beers like sours the yeast can continue to make its magic happen. But if I have a 12 year old bourbon, is there any virtue in holding for a period of time? I generally just drink it if I'm buying it.

Thanks, guys

That's what I thought. So, hypothetically, if someone were to have a bottle of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof from 2010, it shouldn't be more expensive than a recent bottle? There's no appreciable difference in the flavor. That's my impression. But I feel like I've seen you guys pay more for an older bottle here. Then again, I don't know anything about the BXN and I only follow this thread semi-regularly, so it could be just an incidence of scarcity that I'm not tapped into.

I don't want to be an obnoxious n00b. I just defer to people that are more knowledgeable.

The difference in price comes from mostly 2 factors:
1) Scarcity after you can't find it on a shelf anymore
2) Some years just taste better. Flavor profile can vary slightly from barrel to barrel from even the same years release, year to year it can be very noticeable.

Exactly. If you look at the bourbon blue book, prices vary year to year on most limited releases.

It's because most D bags who like to rip you off on the 2nd market like to think the older stuff (that is mostly long gone off the shelf) is better and worth more than the new shite you can possibly buy in the wild to trade....until that new stuff is now old and no ware to be found...then it's the best...repeat. There are some exceptions...I don't think ECBP is one of them.

The new ECBP should be out soon Eh?

I love that they made it a regular release. Great bourbon for the price and fairly easy to find.
