I'm looking to get a smoker for my boyfriend for his birthday next month. I don't know much about them... Looking to spend up to $500... Any suggestions?

I second Weber Smokey Mountain. Don't waste $300 on the Acorn.

I am a Weber fan, love my Genesis, but you can't move the smokey moutain very easily. Don't trust just the posts read the reviews of both mentioned at these sites; Lowes.com and Samsclub.com. You'll get a great idea of the pros/cons from a large sample of respondents. Good Luck !

It really depends on his preference. Lots of good suggestions so far but I prefer my pellet smoker. It's ridiculously easy to use and I love the way it cooks. I bought a Green Mountain Grill but there are other good brands out there. I would say GMGs are one of the best but for $500 you might look into a Traeger.

My dad just bough the $499 old country BBQ grill/smoker from academy. Its pretty solid if he wants an offset smoker.
