Mi Padres is pretty bad. If the name is grammatically wrong, I don't think you can expect very much.

I have never been to Coyote Blues.

Coyote Blues is a fun date place if you can stand the noise. Ask for a booth- it might be a little easier to hear each other.
They have some interesting appetizers and nice TexMex with a LA twist.

My favorite Tex Mex is still Ninfa's. They make their tortillas on site.

Mi Padres has live music some nights, so that could be a plus.

Can't say much about their food.

However, I have tried Coyote Blues and the food was pretty good.

Tough call.

Both area great for Tex-Mex, but I go to Coyote Blues only if I'm in the mood for some seafood fusion. Mi Padre's is a solid Tex-Mex restaurant, definitely the one I frequent the most in BR.

I like Ninfas, but CB is a better environment.

Some Food Board posters have complained that Coyote Blues was too noisy for them. That wasn't my experience any of the times I went, but worth mentioning.

It has been through multiple manager changes in the last couple of years and maybe even ownership changes. The owner was having tax issues and I can't remember if I heard he was selling it or not, but yes the food has improved over the years.

Comparing Mi Padres and Coyote Blues is kind of tough. It's more of what you're in the mood for. Coyote Blues regular fajitas were pretty damn good.

Which one is Mi Padre? Is it the one by Lens Crafters at Bluebonnet and Perkins, or the one further south on Bluebonnet by the Post Office?

Bluebonnet and Perkins. I think the other one is Casa Maria.

Mi Padres is in the shopping center across from Perkins Rowe. I think Casa Maria is the one a little further down.

Jamal Roman still owns it, from what I understand.

When he first opened it as Papacito's, I wasn't really impressed. His Salvadoran manager split to Superior Grill. When it became Mi Padre's, everything was a lot better.

Solid Mexican kitchen staff. The Steak Tampicana there is great, and the fajitas are good (albeit pricey). They switched up the tortilla recipe, which I'm unhappy about it. Otherwise you still get salsa plus hot refried bean dip for the chips (always something I liked).

I'll go there with a few Mexican buddies and we'll get the tamale platter, which is a dozen giant tamales for $21.99 (not the little kind you normally see in restaurants). It's one of the few Tex-Mex places that my Mexican friends enjoy.

That's the last time I tried it. I remember when Chris from Superior was there as manager. Then he went back. Guess I need to give it another chance. Always looking for a good tamale.
