Posting your location might help.

For me wild ones are averaging about $275 per bird this year. Store bought would be waaaaay cheaper.

I'm in the $527 per bird range, Mr. Balls, not taking into account my in season liquor bill or post season detox expense...

You can't buy wild duck at a store. It's illegal to sell wild game.
Farmed duck is available at most bigger grocery stores, but it is quite a different animal. Wild often has little to no fat, while farmed has a thick layer of fat that you will want to render before putting the meat it In gumbo. Otherwise it will be an oil slick.

Go buy a farm raised duck at the grocery store, they taste better anyway

Thanks man,, I'm glad you specified those things, we had no clue.
I was going to grocery store to see if they had some fresh, cameron parish killed mallards today for a gumbo, but, you saved me a trip!
Crud, I'm gonna go anyway, I've got a hankering for fried fish, maybe they'll have some fresh bass or white perch for sale?

A meat market here in town sells duck fat and I often use it as part of my roux for gumbo

youre gonna have to go to a butcher shop. not a grocery store. I dont know where some of these other posters shop but ive never seen fresh duck at a grocery store.
