I bought a dozen jumbo eggs from Trader Joe's in SF a few months back, and I believe 6 or 7 of that particular dozen were double-yoked. I was absolutely in heaven over those few days.

The egg producer can easily determine if it is a single or double yolk by "candling" the egg, shine a bright light at the egg from one end to the other.

I've had chickens for almost 2 years. So far I've had one double yolk and only a few with anything such as a soft shell or blood in them. I feed mine table scraps and supplement with fees only when we don't have ant table scraps.
