I had bought an old aluminum Drip-O-Later on Ebay about 10-12 years ago where you boil your water and make it on the stove. I tried a perculator and a Mr.Coffee drip style and neither can compare. They are not hot enough and don't make it strong enough. What do you use?

Grind my beans right before brewing. Then use a Bunn.

I bought a Cuisinart drip maker many years ago and love it. It finally went out last summer so I replace it with a newer model.

I occasionally use the old style aluminum drip too. Especially handy during hurricane season.

Is the French Press just for a single cup?

Mine can make up to like 6-8 "cups", but I tend to drink 1 massive cup. I just fill my to-go mug with water to get the right measurement, pour it in a pot to boil, then pour the hot water over my coffee in the press. Its only about 1/3 full, so yes you can do partial brews.

you can also buy little ones for 1 cup like this

Wasn't there something years ago in a couple of articles about the French press being unhealthy for some reason? Seriously, I don't think I'm imagining it. Maybe even releasing a carcinogen or something. Would someone do the research and get back to me. TIA

A Krups drip-style that I have had for years. It works like a champ.

I really doubt that. One of the health freaks that I know, who also happens to work in the starbucks corporate office in Seattle uses one every day. When I was up there recently she was making coffee for me in that thing and I am now converted. Going to buy me one soon for sure.

Woohoo! I found it. The French press method releases more cafestol and kahweol, two alcohols contained in coffee oils, that can have negative health effects on the liver and LDL levels in the blood.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Not going to shoot the messenger, but I wonder just how much of it you would have to take in for it to prove to have a negative effect on the liver and LDL levels in the blood.

Seems just a bit over the top to think that pressing water through grounds is more dangerous than dripping the water through the grounds. In any case, who cares? I'll take quality overy quantity any day. If I live 6 months less on this earth because I drank better coffee and enjoyed myself more then I'm fine with that.

I think it has to do with the paper method filtering out more of the bad shite.

But, hey, I'm with you. I doubt that one dietary issue is going to affect your lifespan all other things considered.

So, I would take it that old school drip pots that require you to pour hot water over the grounds that aren't in a paper filter are also more dangerous than running it through coffee in a filter.

I wonder who put this study on? Mr. Coffee?

Yeah, I like my coffee too much to worry about it anyway.

Bunn works great. Fast. Water is always hot. They're used commercially for a reason.

Usually use Community Dark Roast beans, but we have a bag of already ground just in case we have guests sleeping over downstairs in the guest room (next to the kitchen). When that thing grinds the beans it sounds like a Cessna getting ready for takeoff.
