I prefer the sweet potato turnover. Tastes great, and the farts are satisfying.

I would avoid things I can easily get outside of the Fest. After all, there's limited stomach space.

So

Crawfish Monica
Soft-shell Poboy
Cuban
Meat Pies
A lot of poboys
cracklins
Lucky dog
Yaka mein
Roman candy
a banana

are out.

What I'd go for:

Prejean's Gumbo
Crawfish sack
crawfish bread

By the way, here are Tom Fitz's recommendations:

Someone remind me where the draft beer is sold in the fairgrounds?
I remember something in the grandstand, but wasn't sure if that's still an option

I've always found draft by the blues tent - its near the dirt portion of the track.
As to food, the crawfish bisque is my go to.

Glad you posted this. I've been wanting to ask what exactly is this (I only know of the sweet kinds), because it looks very good in the picture. So... what exactly is this?

What's the best place outside of the grounds to get a bloody mary? I'm heading out there pretty early tomorrow and want to stop in somewhere.

It is some kind of crawfish type au gratin filling in fried phyllo dough

It's incredible and I highly recommend it.
