Our reservation was for 7:45, and there was only a slight delay of 5 or 10 minutes while they cleared our table.

The building renovation was well done. It's a nice looking contemporary style. There's a large bar, and oyster station (for the shucker), and two dining areas.

The service was attentive and friendly. They have a good selection of whiskeys, cocktails and wine.

We started with the fried oysters with jalapeno aioli and pickled turnips AND the smoked drum mousse with "cajun caviar" grilled toast. The oysters were perfectly fried and spicy. Aioli was spot on. The mousse was served in a small Mason jar. It was good, but I was hoping for more. My wife liked it more than I did.

I had the grilled pompano with oyster broth, bacon and pickled green tomatoes. The pompano was grilled nicely. The "oyster broth" was a bit thicker than I expected but had a nice understated flavor that was picked up by the bits of bacon and green tomatoes.

My wife tried the "chicken under a brick" (they don't bring the brick to the table ). It was accompanied with broccoli, cauliflower and sage. Nicely roasted and juicy.

For dessert we shared the chocolate mint tart with bourbon caramel ice cream. It was good, but pretty much what you would expect.

It's not inexpensive. The food bill was about $90, and 2 drinks and 2 wines by the glass came to $45.

One of the owners (the husband) told one of our friends that he thinks a restaurant needs several years to become "great". And they're still finding their footing with local resources and tastes. The meal was very enjoyable, but it didn't necessarily stand out when compared to the best restaurants in the same general category. I'll definitely go back after a few months.

When I went a few weeks back for lunch with a friend we had the same two entrees as you did and I thought they were great.
Overall I thought it was just a bit in the expensive side, especially for lunch.
I can def see myself going back to sit at the bar and drink bourbon.

I thought it was good and enjoyable, but super expensive for the quality. I like the setup.

i talked to the owners last time i went back in january for a few drinks. they own a few restaurants in NYC and didn't adjust the prices when they moved to NOLA

i do love the place, though. great setup.

That seems about right.

I enjoyed the outside dining quite a bit. Would love if they did some kind of happy hour or small plate deal at the bar.

review from last nite
went for my FIL's birthday, 5 ppl
the place is very nice inside with a great bar and though it was packed, it wasn't cramped or noisy. excellent atmosphere

the service was business-like and very fast, amazingly fast considering how busy they were. You know how when you're in a busy place and you're tempted to buy a double round because drinks take so long? Not here. They have the cocktail service down pat, we never waited for anything

starters were the crispy grits and fried oysters. They also sent out an amuse bouche of little cheese biscuits. seconds were sweet pea salads, pork stuffed pasta, grilled quail and smoked trout salad. entrees were butcher steak, grilled sheepshead, chicken under brick. Desserts were a chocolate mint thing, cheesecake and key lime pie. They also sent strawberry granita and some truffles and macaroons on the house

the food was outstanding, we cleaned every plate and all was very tasty and original.

the bill was...a lot.
the downside of efficient service is we drank quite a bit, but we were celebrating. Beverage check was about 200 bucks. total was 550 including generous tip. I was definitely satisfied and happy with the value but these guys have an excellent business plan and are making good money if the avg check is near ours

We will definitely go back
great place also if you like to sit at the bar and eat
