Walked into Cooter Brown's yesterday and wanted to try something new, decided on Urban South's Holly Roller, very tasty IPA, on par with other LA beers (Parish Envie, Great Raft Commotion, etc.), suggest y'all try it if y'all have a chance

6.3% ABV 60 IBU
light in appearance with a crisp hoppy/citrus taste

quote:

To every thing there is a season. A time to weep and a time to laugh. A time to plant and a time to reap. But in the Urban South, our seasons run together. Here, parishioners cycle between pew and barstool. The tippler duets with the street preacher. And last night’s carousers become today’s congregation, still dressed in their finest. Holy Roller is a big, bold IPA for all of us caught between best intentions and bad behavior. It’s for the golden moment between Saturday night sins and Sunday’s repentance. It’s for life lived in full. For every season, there is a beer. We call it Holy Roller.

I would think someone who produces a cool looking can like that could have come up with a better name for their brewery. Urban South kinda sounds generic hipsterish.

Indeed. I'd like to give it a try.

I also like their logo, but I really hope they change the colors. With those colors and the shape, they could call it Best Western. Yikes.

I didn't put it on par with Envir or even Commotion. Maybe the batch they canned is better though.

Super unimpressed with both their beers. B pointed out it will probably take a few batches for them to scale the recipes properly -- I hope that's the issue. At least we can look forward to trying Wayward Owl?

Plus crowlers.

Guy was nice the time I met him. He was cocky, but in a way that kinda inspires confidence. I hope.

More likely it was just differences in palates.

Best Western is exactly what popped into my mind when I looked at the logo.

New breweries always have to work out the kinks on their systems. Some work them out for the better. Some were doomed from the start.

Had at on draft at Three Muses Sunday...enjoyed it and will drink again. Better than Hopitoulas IMHO.

Good review, you sold me. But I am stuck on Envie as long as they don't mess with the recipe any more.

I had Holy Roller on tap weekend before last at Company Burger downtown and it was OK at best. Will go straight to the source a few miles away for a final opinion.

I had it at Butcher a couple weeks back and thought it was on par with Envie.

How many breweries does New Orleans now have?

NOLA
Courtyard
Urban South
Second Line Brewery
Old Rail (close enough)

Am I missing any?

40 Arpernt
Wayward Owl opening soon

And I believe there is one being built in the Bywater.

If you count Old Rail you might as well count the other 36 breweries across the lake.
