Tsubaki restaurant is now *not* open until 2am in Lafayette

I've learned a lot about restaurants here on TD over the years, so I thought I'd put a courtesy shout out to the Lafayette peeps that Tsubaki (by the mall) is open til 2am Tues-Sat. I'm guessing most don't even know that the city has a sushi joint open til 2. I only stumbled upon it when exploring livingsocial and found out they currently have a special on late night hours. Besides sports bars and Mel's, there aren't too many late night options in Lafayette.
One of my favorite places to hit up late night is Blue Samurai in Ybor City (Tampa, FL) because they're also open until 2am. Granted, Ybor City itself is bustling late at night so the place is usually packed. I went to Tsubaki late night recently and unfortunately there were literally tumbleweeds blowing by which was a shame. I think it's a fantastic concept to be open that late and I hope more people take advantage of it.
I got the Chirashi Sushi which is an assortment of seafood in a bowl over rice. I enjoyed it, plus the ten bucks off on livingsocial. The fact that I was probably the only one in there wasn't a reflection on the food or service which I enjoyed.
Hopefully this will be a viable concept for them to be open late.

I'm not big on sushi but IMO Tsubaki has some of the best hibachi and fried rice in Lafayette.

Haven't tried their hibachi. I'll occasionally go with a group on special occasions for hibachi but what's offered on a hibachi grill is something I can easily make at home.
Just an FYI, I don't think any hibachi table is open late night. They have late night specials, and also offer all of their sushi.

Just curious when is the last time you've been there to eat. Not trying to sound disparaging, genuinely curious. I haven't eaten there in a long time.

It's been quite some time (a year or so). And to honest, I have not lived in Lafayette for close to 5 years now. Based on the insane amount of construction and new stores/restaurants I saw when passing through yesterday, there probably are better restaurants there now.

thanks for the skinny Degas
Tsubaki is my daughter's favorite sushi restaurant as we eat there once a month and annually on her b-day
I prefer Samurai since Tam and I go way back when he was the head sushi chef at Koto on College Drive in BR .... early 90's. Tam was the first sushi chef in Laffy as he rented space inside the former Chung King Chinese buffet, which is currently Blue Basil.

Haven't been to Tsubaki in forever. Shinto is so much better

Chirashi Sushi
One of my favorite ways to eat sushi, provided a place actually puts care and thought into the selection and assembly. Unfortunately, it's too often just a thrown together dish.

I honestly do not think Lafayette has any good sushi at all. However, Peking Garden as crazy as it seems has the best of the mediocre. I think it's 20% off after 5 as well.

Tsubaki is okay here in Laffy.
We went recently there after Tokyo Steakhouse (the old Bennigans) was over-packed with and hour and a half wait.
food was decent, nothing more.

Shinto gives me the serious runs

Shinto has one of my favorite dishes, Hamachi Kama (yellowtail collar), so I've been there a few times, but they just don't seem to cook it right. It doesn't have that broiled look or texture to it. I also forget to tell them not to smear it with tobiko which I love, but fish eggs have no place on a collar.

Update: Experiment failed. They now have reverted to closing at regular times.
Shame.
Shame.
