Just one of those "beer snob" things. The hipsters and "too cool for other styles" folk. It's taken over the liquor stores and bars/pubs. Every brewer attempts to outdo the other. "Let's make the most bitter beer we can." Irony- in the brewing process, an IPA is not as artful a craft as a well balanced lager. It was the swill beer shipped to British workers in India. Throw a bunch of hope in at the end and bigger the shite out of it so it survives the ship.

Shows how little you know about the IPA fad these days. But carry on with your ignorance.

That's one of the reasons I find IPAs interesting. The fact that way back when they were being proactive in finding a way for freshness longevity. I think a lot of brewers respect that and try to make it taste good as well.

Sometimes good things come from humble beginnings. Lobster use to be food for prisoners.

it does suck when you buy a six pack of a complete turd of a beer.

It was sarcasm.

Finally, someone here who actually knows something about beer.

I go to my local beer store and there are always people with their phones out looking up ratings on ratebeer to decide if it is good enough for them.

I crush basic craft 6 packs often, but if I'm buying a single beer that's over say $10, then I'm probably going to do a quick check online to make sure it's not a dud. I'm one of the guys in the store looking at his phone.

Yeah, no. American IPA's have a fairly long history in the US.

Yay?

You do realize there is a difference in what I'm talking about though, right? Please don't get your panties in a wad. Let the downvotes commence.

The guys were literally searching the aisles for a 95+ score on ratebeer. If it wasn't that high, they literally said it isn't good enough.

It's highly likely that these guys that you're talking about will eventually share your perspective on the beer ratings once they've tried enough of them. Let them enjoy their journey.

I literally just left a beer store. While I was in there I saw 5-6 different local IPAs I have never tried, but only wanted to buy 1-2 of them. I proceeded to google the frick out of them to see what the masses had to say. Left with the highest rated out of the bunch.

Today was a good day.

I do it almost every time I go to Hokus Pokus. I know I will hate certain beers by the reviews. I like to try new stuff, and I'd rather not have to give away 5 beers every time.
