getting to the point that unless you smell the rare or it scores a 95 on beer sites, it's just not good enough for a lot of beer snobs.

Lot of people post in the FBD thread drinking St Arnold's Art Car, and it's neither rare nor a 95 rated beer.

We maybe in at least some of those instances, they see a brand new beer on the shelves and are looking up reviews before buying??

Yeah, but if you think just because the beer received an overall rating of 85 on ratebeer, or a B on another site, that it isn't a decent beer or not good enough then I don't know what to tell you. There's a difference between being informed and being a snob. You're kidding yourself if you think those types of people don't exist.

I get that, and I never called them beer snobs. I'm just saying that we all know some people that are snobs. And I think it's comical when I'm around them. I enjoy really good beer as well, and I drink plenty of things I see on the FBD thread as well.

I digress. This is a topic for another day... this is an Abita thread.

Exactly. And that's why it's so annoying. Just buy the fricking beer if it looks interesting to you and make up your own mind. Are you not going to buy the beer if your phone tells you it's only average?

With a 95 sitting next to it on a shelf and just enough money left over after child support, would I still pick an 85?

Well, you do have a point.

Not me, I don't down-vote but I get plenty of them.

Why not read reviews on the taste first?? If you're looking for hoppy with minimum malt at the time, do you just buy off the shelf without reading a review and realize on first sip you wasted money on something that was the opposite of what you wanted??

Or if you're in the mood for a stout, but don't want one that is too sweet??

Never said they don't exist. Your statement/premise is that if someone is looking up a beer on an app, they are doing it to find out if the beer is good enough for them. In fact, many of them are not snobs and are simply trying to be informed.

Just like with movies, restaurants and books.

edit: for me, it's simply really fun to read about beers, talk to the guys in the shop and other customers while I am making my decisions. I suppose people enjoying themselves is offensive to some.

A beer that I've never had before? No, no I am not going to buy it if it's had average reviews.

This.
It's pretty damn amazing that we go through this same shite every fcking time there is a thread about Abita. Most with common sense can point out that most of their beers are pretty average, but if you don't kiss the Abita masters ring, the "beer snob" comments start.

Sorry Abita fans, this isn't 1999 any more. The state's selection of local and non-local beers have changed and many more people now recognize what good beer taste like.

I never said you did. tOOf mentioned that he doesn't know anyone that buys things based on it being hip. I'm stating that I find it hard to believe that he or anyone into beer doesn't know at least one person that does this.

No, my statement/premise is based off of my recent experiences at the store. The guys were literally searching the aisles for a 95+ score on ratebeer. If it wasn't that high, they literally said it isn't good enough. That's what I'm basing it off of.

I'm also basing it off of a Facebook beer page I'm a member of where everyone was so excited that we finally get high alcohol content beers. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about it to. Then the mad rush to get DFH 120 minute IPA started where everyone on the page had to go get as many as they could. Now I think it's hilarious because these people that got the beer because it was rare for the area are pissed off because how horrible they think the beer is. It's a running joke on the site now. That's what I'm basing my statement/premise on. Everyone has their own experiences but you're kidding yourself if you don't think these type people exist.

I do research and when I pick up something new I may look it up just like I would with a nice bottle of wine. I don't know anyone sitting in a store taking pictures of beer and posting it on ratebeer. I like massive hops and double IPA's and I don't think that is a hip thing.

Amber is still a staple of mine. Turbodog has always been fantastic. Haze is still a hot, outdoor day favorite of mine. I don't like all their brews, but I think they're still a damn fine brewery. To each his own. I will be glad when the IPA fad dies a bit.

Hig, what are you standing to gain from the IPA "fad" dying a bit?
