Just sent the following to the Vice-Chair of the committee:

"Please consider the above-referenced bill for further passage to a potential ratification. Small business, even those involved in alcohol, are the backbone of this state and this nation. With that in mind, I can understand why certain industries would not be happy with the proposed changes.

"Think about if you or I produced a unique and quality product, but then we are told that we do not even have the right to sell our own hard work as we see fit. All product has to go to a big box store or the small shop does everything on their own. Unfortunately, the current system does not provide for much of a compromise.

"I appreciate your time, and I will leave you with one thought. Our cattle makes us Texan, our cooking makes us Texan, our work ethic makes us Texan, our pride makes us Texan, and now are beer is just starting to make us Texan. Many small groups from Midland to Magnolia are providing quality product to local patrons. Please review all of your information, and I hope that you see that providing small business every opportunity for success is best for Texas.

"Thank you."

regarding the "homebrew" bill...
the current law prohibits bars and breweries from accepting submissions, thereby not allowing these types of competitions and gatherings to be hosted at breweries/brewpubs. This bill would eliminate such wording from the law.

ACTION ALERT: HB 2546 by Rep. Springer needs our help

We have learned that the Beer Alliance lobbyists are actively working members of the Calendars Committee to keep HB 2546 from being considered by the full House of Representatives. They have no real policy argument, only saying they “gave enough” last session and do not want anything related to the craft beer industry to pass.

Again, this bill will simply allow homebrew competitions to be held wherever appropriate, regardless if the location is a TABC licensed facility or not. Right now, they cannot be held at facilities that carry a TABC license of any kind. Please contact all of these offices and let them know you support HB 2546. We need your help to loosen the restrictive grip of the Beer Alliance.
