Szechuan buzz button

So the wife and I dropped our kid off with his grandparents this evening and went to Palermo on Jefferson. We were in the mood for cocktails and the one I picked, called a 'margherita' (which is not actually a margerita) came with a garnish called a "Szechuan buzz button". Apparently it's a flower (it looks like the middle of a flower with all the petals removed) that has some pretty crazy properties when you eat it.
The best way I can describe it is that it makes you feel like you have a constant pour of carbonation on your tongue for a few minutes. Frankly, it's worth trying, and I highly recommend trying it at least once. Anyone else ever had one?
As a side note Palermo knocked the rest of the dinner out of the park. Second time there and second time really enjoying ourselves.

Commonly called a Szechuan peppercorn. They have that effect, like a numbing sensation. The first time I had that was at Han Dynasty in Philadelphia, the Dan Dan noodles. I tried to send them back thinking either there was cleaning solution in the bowl or I was allergic to something in the dish!

Apparently it's the flower bud from the toothache plant. I assumed it was the Sichuan peppercorn but not related. Interestingly enough, among the seeds were trying for our garden this year is the toothache plant so I should have a batch growing soon

I've had it in a martini from a Japanese restaurant in Denver. It was called. Buddha button.
