Does anyone know anything about this? I was in Calandros today and bought two packs of these. Calandros had them labeled as Louisiana crawfish, and the package says they're a "product of the US" but the fact that they're Sysco brand has me suspicious. Are these actually from here or am I about to eat Chinese crawfish?

I haven’t seen Sysco branded frozen crawfish.

But if it’s sold in Louisiana then it would be illegal for them to not have “product of China” on the label if it’s Chinese crawfish.

Does it have this on the package?

Sysco carries all kinds of stuff. My buddy worked for them for a while. Yes, he sold lots of prepared cheese sticks, but also some really good cuts of meat and fresh vegetables

Why is Sysco a red flag? They are a company that brings food to restaurants. Each and every single restaurant you have ever been to has gotten their food from some distributor.

Because a lot of subpar restaurants use Sysco's premade dishes instead of cooking themselves. It effectively makes a restaurant on a level of Applebee's or airline meals.

Are we talking about frozen peeled tails, or the whole frozen boiled crawfish that places are heating up and serving?

You’d be surprised what Sysco and other suppliers are making “pre-made” for your local restaurant

I could be wrong but I think distributors like Sysco have different tiers of items that the restaurant chooses based on their wants/needs. These could be the freshest ingredients or premade processed dishes depending on what the restaurant chooses.

Which premade dishes does Sysco make?

To my knowledge, Sysco doesn’t produce any food product. They are a food distributor. Processing companies make the food and Sysco is the middle man taking it to restaurants.

Cajun A La Carte is a fantastic example in the Belle Rose area. They make all kinds of foods for restaurants. If you eat anything from Walk Ons, you’re probably eating their food. Sysco gets the food from ALaCarte and then brings it to restaurants.

I ain’t hating on Sysco, but you know what he is talking about, items like Spinach artichoke dip, mozzarella sticks, cheesecake, cookies, etc

So they do have processing companies under their umbrella. Makes sense.

You can get processed spinach dip or a fresh beef tenderloin. It doesn’t mean all restaurants who use Sysco are crap. Y’all do realize that EVERY SINGLE restaurant has a distributor, huh?

You are not wrong.

It's all about what the restaurant wants to spend and or make themselves.

They have top-notch cuts of beef that could be served at the best steakhouses in the country, to pre-made boudin eggrolls that are ready to fry and serve at a bar, and everything in between.

I think a restaurant got us with these the other night. Tiny, mushy, and hard to peel.
