I'm having a crawfish boil this weekend and will need to pick up the bugs the evening before the boil and store them overnight at my house. I have the coolers to store them overnight and am looking for some expert advice in regards to ice amount, store location, etc.
Thank you all
Thank you all

Leave them in the sack,,, put ice on the button of the icechest then towel on top of the ice..put the sack in .. Then another wet towl on top of the sack,,shut the lid and leave the drain plug open. Store them somewhere where the sun willnot hit the icechest.
Ice,dry towl, crawfish (still in the sac), wet towel. Lid shut with plug open. Store in the shade. Your welcome!

either what he said, or if you have a fridge in the shed or something, you can put the sack in there. make sure to put a couple of old towels or a bunch of newspaper under the sack if you go this route.

My only question is, what's the reason for closing the lid of the ice chest compared to keeping it cracked?

This is the most important step IMO. You just want to keep them cool and don't let them set in ice water overnight. I don't think it matters if the lid is closed or not as long as all the ice doesn't melt and drain out. I usually leave it cracked just because with the sack and ice it the lid doesn't close all the way.

Don't want them to drown.
