I searched and there doesn't appear to be many reviews on this place.

I have to complement them, even though I have never eaten there. The owner is always on Facebook responding to comments, good or bad. They constantly show up in my news feed and I appreciate his cooking demonstration videos on brisket and wings.

Now that is all out of the way, how is their food? Which meats are the best? Which ones to stay away from?

When I think of very good brisket, I think of Smitty's in Lockhart, TX. I also think of Lockharts in Dallas, TX. And I would be doing a disservice to Stanley's in Tyler, TX if I didn't mention them.

For smoked chicken, I think of Lockharts again in Dallas, TX and Hutchin's BBQ in McKinney, TX.

And for beef ribs, it's hard to beat Pecan Lodge in Dallas or Black's BBQ in Austin or Lockhart.

So, how does this compare? Will I leave satisfied? Or wanting something more?

And sides ... how are the sides?

Had high hopes for this place with as much as I heard about it. The food at Southern Pride was as average as BBQ gets. I tried brisket, chicken, ribs. All just good, nothing special. Also was more expensive than most places. Couyon's port Allen or firehouse BBQ in Watson are on another level than Southern Pride.

Also, the place doesn't have that shitty appearance and greasy feel that good BBQ places usually have, and they have cheesy music blaring. I guess that's what makes them "gourmet BBQ" That's the motto they boast

I eat there when he was still just a food trailer and thought it was very good. I haven't had a chance to go since the actual restaurant has opened.

Brisket is good.

Chicken was good.

Pulled pork is ok.

Sides are good and well seasoned.

Best bbq in the br area imo.
