Anyone here make smoothies....
I make protein shakes all the time, but they never come out good. They always come out liquidy. Anyone know how to make thick smoothies like at Smoothie King? Advice?

Just use more ice.
I use a scoop of Wheybolic Extreme protein powder, a banana, two tablespoons of almond butter or Omega-3 natural peanut butter, splash of sugar-free flavored syrup, a little bit of water, then I add eight pieces of ice, more or less depending on the consistency I'm going for.
The blender you get makes a big difference too, I have one of those Wave Blenders from Wal-Mart, works a lot better than the other ones I've used.
Smoothie King Smoothies are worthless. A lot of sugar, extremely little protein powder.

It's all relative to how much ice you use.
Just get a high-quality blender, and you'll be in good shape. I try to make my smoothies pretty thick.

No offense to Nostrodamus, but SK has recently been busted (if people already didn't know). They put waaay more calories in there than they lead on. If you are looking to put on strictly mass and bulk up, then they're great. For the longest time, I would drink one after a wkout and wonder why my abs weren't improving from the work I had been doing to them. Well, 900 calories won't help there much.
For post workout protein, I do a Myoplex Lite.

More ice doesn't work for me and I have a nice "ice breaking' blender... it's all about the frozen fruit, imho.

frozen fruit is the key i find...also, the bullet blender is awesome, i highly suggest investing in one. i put yogurt, milk, or OJ in mine, never use ice.

Slice the banana and freeze it. Use that with a handful of frozen strawberries and orange juice about 1/2 - 1 cup.
The Bullet is great for smoothies.

actually, SK was one smoothie place that tested right on target. And while I've never been a huge smoothie promoter as Nostro may remember, SK does give you the option to eliminate the turbinado. It's pretty easy to get a low calorie option at SK if you familiarize yourself with their products. People also don't understand that you can't drink what amounts to a meal replacement as a snack.

Frozen bananas with vanilla whey protein = greatness
Posted on 8/16/08 at 10:15 am to TigerBait1127
2 scoops Whey protein (vanilla flavored)
A little water
One small container of strawberry banana yogurt
Blend those.
One banana chopped up
One large scoop of low fat peanut butter
Blend again.
Add approximately 7-9 ice cubes.
Blend again.
The perfect smoothie!
-I find that blending it in stages helps to make it smoother. The yogurt seems to make it creamier. I like the taste of pb in it, but some people don't.

that's how my husband does his. He uses frozen fruit, bananas, some juice, ice cubes, and whey protein, but blends in stages and his are always thick.
