Honestly your best bet for good coffee is to find your local coffee roaster (or whole foods) and buy coffee that was roasted recently.

"Hardcore" coffee drinkers generally don't drink dark roasts because you lose most of the character of the particular bean.

Speak for yourself. I consider myself a person who has to have a large cup of black coffee every morning. I like dark roast because it has the best kick. It is higher octane and I like the stronger taste as well.

Have you tried cold brewing?

I love it.

I just put some in the fridge for an overnight brew, heard it's great especially for iced coffee. Let's hope so.

It has a "stronger" flavor, but caffeine-wise dark roast has the same or slightly less caffeine than a lighter roast.

Community makes the best dark roast coffee, end of story. It's what all dark roast coffee aspires to be and is exactly what you're looking for.

A pinch of salt in the grinds will take the edge off your perception of bitterness and make the brew seem smoother.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I have been trying to ween myself off sugar but just couldn't do it. I tried a pinch of kosher salt this morning and I was sugarless.

I have just recently started drinking coffee, and use the reusable K-cups. I found that I enjoy the locally roasted beans more, but haven't reached a point where I have a favorite - I'm still experimenting. I'm not sure whether or not my preference for local coffee is real or perceived.

Dark roast isn't smooth

It has a strong taste and many times bitter
