Wow. Odd deal. Not so sure the American Can Bldg is the best place for a restaurant like that one. Parking is a huge pain. Plus, there's nothing else nearby. Wish him well, but he's made some odd career choices recently.

Guy is a crazy as they come. I really wanted to try it but I rarely go to Mid-city. I'm not interested in this new watered down version.

If you checked the link, NOLA.com dropped the story at 4:00 on friday.

I do wish the guy well.

obviously Houston's food scene is more dynamic so it's a natural move for such a talented chef

I guess "dynamic" means, more willing to appreciate smelly sweat infused dishes.

I tried it a few weeks back. The had started a wine tasting with small plates on Mondays. Small plate pairings were good. Stayed for dinner, which paled in comparison. Chris was walking around during the wine tasting - some things are better left unseen.

seriously. I mean I really don't want to slam a chef for their appearance, we should judge them by their food, work ethic, integrity, etc.. but a guy that looks like that cooking my food kinda grosses me out.

If I had not tasted the small plates, and had seen him walking around, no way I would have stayed for dinner. Looks like he should have been at the old Hummingbird Grill - and not as a cook, but as one of the local denizens.

Nah never did. Like you, I rarely make it out to Mid-City.

It wasn't all that good. Never thought it would last long.

That was a while ago.

I did make it to Green Goddess while he was there and was very impressed.

I doubt that the reinvention makes it long.

i was at a CAC event where Serendipity had a booth. he was serving up something or other. sitting down the whole time preparing his little bites (all the other chefs/booth attendees were standing for the duration btw) .. he was using Dixie bath cups to serve his food:

meanwhile Stella! sous chef is right next to him with a beautiful deviled egg spread and quality plastic plates and cutlery.

he just seemed lazy and disinterested. didn't really engage anyone who came up. and of course, he was sweating.

Sounds like strange circumstances. I tried it out once...it was good, but I wasn't impressed enough to go back. I couldn't figure out what he was going for with the menu, it was all over the place (maybe that's what he was going for). I'll probably check it out again in a few months now that there is a new chef and menu.

The first time I saw Chris DeBarr he was still at Green Goddess. He came to our table and knew the people I was with and stayed and chatted for a while, smiling the whole time. I couldn't believe that he was the person back there running the kitchen. He seems to know and enjoy good food, but I hope his kitchen is a better example of cleanliness than what he presents himself.

Oh this is the fat slobbering slob who was on Chopped? That dude looks like an unemployed cab driver.

That's him. The judges on Chopped didn't seem too impressed with his appearance or personality. Can't say I blame them.

Best description I ever heard of him was that he is the reincarnation of Bill Murray's character from Caddyshack, who just so happened to walk into a kitchen. But, the guy did manage to put out a few good dishes during his stint in NO.
