I love Boston Lager. That and their Octoberfest are two of my tailgate staples. Easy drinkin, and can drink em all day.

I can't completely hate on Sam Adams. A handful of their beers along with a few others was my transition to craft beer.

I think their oktoberfest was what really got me drinking things other than bud light. I remember drinking it for the first time at Fox and Hound, and i got a free glass with it, that i still have. Along with oktoberfest i'd drink guiness and amstel light on the reg when we went to the bar. This was my transition phase. Then i started trying sam adams noble pils and i loved it. From there i went to Sierra Nevada and on and on. So i can't call them all shite.

I will say, i don't really buy Sam Adams beers anymore. I just don't really care for their beers, and that has prevented me from buying other sam adams beers. Occasionally i may grab a single off the shelf, if it's something new, but more times than not, i end up disappointed. If i see these as singles on the shelf i'll try them.

I do want to pick up an oktoberfest and a noble pils again, just to see how they taste.

I don't hate Sam Adams. They're beers are fairly reliably decent, drinkable beers. They're not my go-to, but if you need some beer while out in the sticks, you can usually find at least a Sam Adams seasonal and the Rebel lineup. Their Rebel lineup is good, so I expect the Rebel Raw to follow suit.

I am interested in trying the nitro coffee stout.

I don't get all the SA hate except for the hipster in the commercial that says he's been selling himself short for not drinking any SA... I hate him.

Part of the appeal of the craft beer scene is the constant search for new and interesting beers. That means larger craft breweries get some unnecessary hate. Often because it becomes uncool to drink something so mass produced, but also because more interesting options are usually available.

I don't know what it is but Sam Adams beers just don't taste right to me. All of them have a weird taste when I drink them.

Anybody else not a fan?

They are hated by mavens because the majority of their lineup is mediocre at best. One dimensional beers to appeal to the masses.

They brew beer just to make money. Jim Koch does not even like IPAS/DIPAS so he refrained from brewing them for many years. He got butthurt that craft beer stores/bars keep passing over SA so that is why these beers are being made. I like to taste passion in my beers and not greed.

They all do.

I hope this is satire.

As stated earlier, they all do and should not be faulted for it. They are a business not a charity.

Starting a business and making a profit isn't greed. It's business.

And Jim can brew whatever he wants. Yes what you said was correct about IPA's and him. But, most breweries that are successful brew beers THEY want to drink. Now i disagree with Jim on his opinion on IPA's but he can do what he wants. He saw that the market and demand for IPA's are huge, so he now brews IPA's. They are ok. Not great, not terrible. Rebel IPA gets a very generous rating on rate beer, IMO.

But you can't fault any business owner for making profits. Thats smart business. He didn't start out a brewing giant. He was doing something with beer when majority of the country, aside from 2 or 3 other breweries, would not. He spawned the creation of many breweries and has a lending program for other startup breweries.

So he's not the "evil rich guy" you may think he is.

then ran the most annoying ad campaign in the history of beer. The single reason I stopped listening to Pandora.

it is not greed for him adjusting to the market that is just good business.

I am not faulting them for making money. Every brewery has their standard/basic styles to keep the lights on.

This is my point. Jim does not like the style and thought it was a fad, but is now brewing a DIPA just to grab some dollars from consumers.

Jim no doubt has done great things for the beer industry, but the criticisms of his beer from the beer hobbyist community are not unfounded.
