Saw a sign that said Nando's Mexican and someone painting the outside of the building.

10-15 years ago that parking lot was packed. A shame what happened to that restaurant. It's been discussed on here that they were supposed to be franchised at one point. The one off Jefferson was never busy. I guess the one off 73 in Prairieville is doing ok?

It was a franchise at one point. There were deangelos all over BR. It didn't work out very well, a downturn in quality and poor management doomed the restaurants

Hammond Aire/Jefferson, Bluebonnet, Coursey, and Lee Drive were always company owned stores.

The out of town locations were either franchised or partners.

It's like they just stopped caring and went on autopilot for a few years

Switched like a light bulb. Back in late 90's we wore those shirts like a badge of honor, it was hard as hell to get a job there. Now, the food just sucks.

Every dish on their menu seems like it is $1 or $2 more than it should be. I expect they'll pull the plug on the whole chain soon enough. They've stopped updating the website -- the home page mentions how football season is here and the Jefferson Highway location, which closed nearly two years ago, is still listed.

Classic example of "identity crisis".

At first, it was quality simple food (pizza, calzones, and sandwiches) at a fair price. They started to introduce Italian restraunt food at a higher price and nicer (read expensive) locations and when the bill showed up you said "man, I could have eaten at Gino's for that price."

Then you franchise without an identity and BOOM, there goes the chain.

On a side note, Louis is a good guy with a good heart and passion but the place got lost.

Would have never guessed it would turn out to be this way. Thought they would be a mainstay in and around Baton Rouge for years. After all, it did start here in 1991. Funny how a great thing 10-12 years ago ends up being a washed up afterthought.

Yep. Always was this way. I used to like the salads because they chop them, but a Caesar without meat was like $15. (I think the price on that has dropped from back when I used to get them) I like the idea of casual Italian because I really like Italian food and all of our Italian joints are pricey/on the nice end.. but DeAngelo's didn't fill that niche. They nailed the casual atmosphere, but the price was still on the higher end.

Wonder how the one in Central is doing.

Didn't realize that there was a location out there. When was it built?

5 or so years ago? I moved away 6 years ago, and it came right around the same time.

It was doing well when it first opened because Central still only had Sammy's and Caliente, but now they have more selection so I wonder if DeAngelos fell to the wayside.

The building is for sale on LACDB. I'm guessing they're going to pull the plug on that one too. Heard it's barely hanging in there.

Wow. I wonder how much longer Prairieville has. I like their calzones and fried artichokes appetizer

they were kind of a first in Baton Rouge at the time, the price point wasn't as big of a deal then because it was better than most pizza in the area. Competition increased with better prices and they never seemed to adjust.

I agree. Not sure why they didn't adjust to the newer competition.

I think they definitely adjusted, just not in the right direction. The quality had a noticeable drop off, I still give it a try every couple of months for the nostalgia but I just end up more disappointed.

Nona's Lasagna is still pretty good but not worth the $18 after tax and tip.

I'll support Nando's, just like I do Mi Padres and Tio Javi's (although I have written them off - just bad food). Why?

Because of handmade flour tortillas.

Any restaurant that uses the pre-made, store bought crap is crap.
