I went to Portico Grill recently. It was good. The Log Cabin is right there too.

ETA: I just noticed the OP said nice meal for one night. Feel free to disregard what I said and go with the Bistro place.

Yeah, it's on Farmerville Hwy. The website says there is also one in Monroe.

See if Sweet Pea's is still open. It's home cooking. They have a buffet, at least at lunch.

The husband also says it is closed. Shut it down for serving underage peeps.

It's El Toro now, one of the better of the 4 or 5 mexican places.

102 Bistro is the best restaurant in Ruston, food wise. Service is hit or miss, but that's everywhere in a college town, especially in the summer. The chef is Cory Bahr, who won the seafood challenge in N.O. Thread on here about it a week or so ago. He is also the chef at Sage in Monroe.

On Park Ave downtown there are three good choices. Raw, sushi and asian fusion; Ponchatoula's, seafood; and Sundown Tavern, good bar food and nice patio.

Dawghouse on Homer St. is my favorite casual place. Good variety and best burgers and chicken salad.

Portico, Cajun Cafe, Dowling's BBQ, Pho Paris Noodle House, Rabb's, Ronin, Monjuni's, Log Cabin and Hot Rod's are other options.

Then there are the chains, WOW, Chili's, Applebee's, Wingstop. Four Chinese buffets. And don't forget about Johnny's.

Sweet Pea's closed but Blue Light Cafe moved to its location. Not a buffet - you write your own ticket and they bring it out to you. Good stuff, but only open for lunch.

Sundown Tavern
is that the little place by Ponchatoulas, with the pool tables, dart boards, etc.. serves sammiches and stuff?
If so,,, that place has the nastiest bathroom that I have ever seen in this part of North America.. I left my boots outside that night and took them to the carwash the next morning..

That's the place. You must have gone to the one inside. The ones on the patio are somewhat better - usually.
