I don't know what "near" is to you, but Flying Saucer, Springbok, Little Woodrows, 8th Wonder, Lucky's are all within a 10 minute walk.

Personally MKT Bar at Phonecia is where I go for food and drinks before Rockets games.

Flying Saucer

Sucks. Buddy and I went there for his birthday when in town last year--took 1 shot, ordered a beer, attempted to order second beer 20 mins later and was told they can only serve 2 drinks per hour. Apparently they have some rule about this

Waitress must have thought I was wasted from that copious amount of alcohol. Left and never looked back

I've never heard that before. Sounds like they just wanted to get rid of you and your buddy.

Plausible but I really can't understand why--weren't doing or saying anything that would warrant such a response.

Maybe waitress didn't feel like making $$ that night

that's not true.

I've ordered 3-4 beers in an hour there over my hour lunch

I was told they won't serve you more than 5. Lady tried to cut me off but I reminded her I only had 4 and then she served me. I was polite about it though.

Pretty solid suggestion. They only have beer though. If you want liquor, especially whiskey, you could hit up reserve 101.

I haven't been recently, but I thought they started serving food from Eatsie Boys? Maybe that's only on the weekend.

ETA: Just looked it up...Thurs-Sunday

I was there one day for lunch, and they cut off the dudes sitting next to me...they were pissed.

they are really the only bar I've been to in my life that is so stringent on a drink count.

They don't wanna end up like the bulldog in BR when the idiot drove drunk and killed a cyclist after leaving their bar

All good choices so far in this thread. Just wanted to add some options if you're looking for liquor vs. beer:

Hearsay - they opened one attached to the Embassy Suites (?). Good drinks, food is pretty good.

The Grove - located in the Discovery Green park.

honestly this is a pretty good thing. most people in houston are driving themselves—NOT EVERYONE—But a lot. most of the beers they serve are 7-10% abv. if you have more than 5 you are shite tanked unless you are Andre The Giant size.

I think its very responsible of them
