Dallas Morning News food critic Leslie Brenner and entourage hit up Proof+Pantry one night with intentions to critique the food and experience. She was recognized immediately. When the meal was over they requested the bill. The owners of the restaurant sent back the bill saying the food was comped. Brenner was pissed and said she wanted to pay the bill b/c it would then be unethical for her to review the restaurant. Owners told her she was welcome to dine there but not as a critic.
Her group was furious and screaming ensued. Some even left to get cash and left it on the table with the bill while Brenner took a pic of it.
The owners of the restaurant took the money and went to DMN headquarters to return the cash.

A fight ensued there too. I find this shite hysterical. I can only imagine how they'd feel with Tom jackass Fitzmorris as a "critic". He's all about free dinners.

Boy, a lot of folks really hate Leslie Brenner. Every time I see a review of hers or a reference to her on another site, the commenters go nuts on her.

I think she's the female version of Tom Fitzmorris, except for the fact that she apparently doesn't accept free meals. Other than that she's known as a pompous a-hole,I guess like most critics.

She plagiarized the hell out of Daniel Vaughn's blog a few years ago for an article. Even Anthony Bourdain jumped on her all the way from NYC for that one. A lot of good chefs in Dallas can't stand her for a variety of reasons. These are problems they didn't have with previous critics in her position so it's not simply a chef vs critic thing.

He recently 'reviewed' the changes at Dick and Jenny's and spent the whole post bragging about the special treatment he got there. nevermind that Dick and Jenny's has declined considerably under their new worthless owners and the average diner won't have a remotely similar experience- Tommy Boy got a free, off menu dish from the chef!

They have a pretty nicely run operation in Houma, Cristiano's, which was excellent the two times I ate there.

You obviously have inside scoop, why are they worthless? Thanks.

That's some good shite. Nothing pissed me off more than someone who tries to make money off being a food critic.

The owner/chef is taking the right line in telling people to make a decision for themselves.

Also funny is I could never read a review from that critic without thinking it was loaded against the chef/owner now.
