As long as you don't mind being barked at while getting your food, Pocorello's is pretty solid.

Pokey likes me...Haven't seen any of Floyd Brown's boiled peanuts for sale in there lately.

Both Pocorello's & Monjunis spaghetti is very good.

They make a great meatball sub. Love the leidenheimer bread. I actually like the fact that Old Man Pokey is generally grumpy, it gives the restaurant a lot of character.

I can't remember which one of you thought that it was a mafia hangout because of all the Cadillacs parked outside after hours, until it was mentioned that they had a weekly wine tasting that night

Bingo. This is no "Hi, I'm Spencer and I'll be your server tonight" type place.

It reminds me of a place on Carondelet St. in NO in the 70's & 80's, Jerry's Poboys. It had a busy lunch counter at noon and if when asked for your order, you hesitated for a second, he yelled "next" and looked at the person behind you. Could be intimidating, but the food was great, we ate there every day when working downtown.
