The Piccadilly on Coolidge in Lafayette is still nice and has that old school feel to it. Food was good last time I went.

shite, now what are the CHS football players going to do before the games...?

Also, I heard Piccadilly did their lunch now, so I'm assuming they are going to have to start looking elsewhere?

Picadilly was still decent, but going downhill, when I was growing up. We have one in Gonzales. However, the change in the seasonings and recipes was noticeable. They used to have some of the best crawfish etoufee around, and their fried catfish was money. Now, it's just all so mediocre. It's not worth it like it used to be.

The one on Vets (perhaps others) sold Andes mints at the register. I got one every damn time.
$.20 Boom!

Now that was a treat.

How old are you? I'm 39, and when I was a kid, the food was quite good. Yes, always cafeteria type food, but it did the job. Last time I went to one (mid 90s), it had already slipped quite a bit, IMO.

In HS, we ate at the one on Sherwood before every game

I never liked the place but it could have been because of the people in there possibly

The one on Essen is disgusting. Not sure why that one is still operating.

I don't think the food is that bad. Sometimes I'll go to the to-go area and pick up some lunch. However, the prices are outrageous for what you get. Just decent food, small portions, large check.

A meal that will run you over $10 probably isn't worth more than $6 or $7.

My friend worked at the one on Jeff Highway for a day and the cooks were smoking crack in the kitchen

OMG yes. My mimi would take me there sometimes before we'd go eat at that Piccadilly.

I'm not. I'm talking about when I was kid and would go there with my grandparents.

I can remember way back in the day (early 70's) going to Piccadilly on Government and having my parents allow me $2. I could eat like a KING.

Back then it had the best crawfish etouffee in town.

Same here. It's a little bittersweet to see it go. Glad that whole area will soon be getting a MAJOR facelift, though.

Back in my grandma's time -- and I'm on the other side of 50 from most of the posters here -- the Westmoreland Shopping Center (Plaza?) was quite the center of commerce.

And on Sundays the Piccadilly had lines out the door out to the street. Deserts that used to be at the front of the serving line (evil genius marketing), giant slabs of beef from which the "roast beast" was carved, and real-glass glasses full of either iced tea with 2" of sugar dumped in it (I can still hear the "clink clink clink" of the tea being stirred all over the room), or your choice of spotlight-illuminated "pink drink" or "red drink" for wide-eyed Mississippi kids like me who had never seed nuthing like that before.

Plus the magic conveyor belt where the dirty serving trays disappeared into a hole. Oh, did I mention that servers used to take your tray to the table and dispense the plates of food?

It. Was. Magic

This.

I miss going to eat there with my grandmother in the 70's and 80's. She loved the place and didn't live too far away either.

I would get the satellite plate (which was a kids plate) with that haddock or cod fish with hush puppies and thought I was eating like a king.

Not the same now.

ETA: I don't know what hurts more: this old Piccadilly closing, or seeing that the old Happy Note has been bull-dozed and is now BRCC campus. Will have to have a drink on that one......
