Got to cook be for my sons camp it this weekend for cub scouts. I know about the calculator and I know what ingredients I need. Was just wondering if my 5 gallon pot will do.

OK, so how much water does the calculator require?. figure displacement of meat and a little rice and voila. you will have your answer.

but, I will venture to say it will be close.

ETA: I mean pasta. Which is an abomination

The calculator should have a pot recommendation I think.

Well 20 of the 40 are kids so that should make a difference.

I guess that depends on the serving size you are estimating. Will there be any other food or just pastalaya? There will always be a few people who go back for seconds if its good. I'm doing pastalaya for 70 Saturday night. My biggest cook so far.

I think you can use the calculator amounts for pastalaya, at least for spaghetti. The shape of pasta used may make some difference in volume, but I'd be surprised if it was enough to throw off the calculation. Use 1 1/4 quarts of liquid per pound of pasta.

The calculator takes into account the volume of the rice and meat, so no adjustment needed.
