Tree has bunch of oranges this year, and I feel like doing something besides OJ or just eating them.

Anyone has a recipe for Orange marmalade/jam?
Also, any tips on canning are also welcomed.

TIA

Pretty sure powdered gelatin isn't needed since oranges contain a large amount of pectin. I may be wrong though.

You ever had it brushed on roast pork or a ham as a glaze?
Marmalade is one of pork's best friends.

I won't eat it on a piece of toast, either, though.

Try making orange curd (like lemon curd, but with oranges). I'm going to try it with satsumas. I used a microwave lemon curd recipe a few years ago and it was easy and so delicious!

Here's a link to the lemon curd recipe I used. If you Google, you'll see similar ones for making orange or just citrus curd.

I keep hearing that the satsumas are coming in with a bumper crop this year. I'm waiting for someone desperate pawning off grocery bags of the things just to make curd with.

Sure Jel is powdered pectin, not powdered gelatin. Pectin is the natural polymer in plant cells....in other words, the stuff in fruit that allows jam to set. Certo is another brand of pectin.

Traditional orange marmalade is usually made from bitter oranges. Using ordinary sweet oranges won’t give it nearly the same intense flavor.

In total agreement. There are some great marmalade only cookbooks out there. I really like the home made marmalades that are mixtures. For fairly sweet oranges, lemon juice and grated lemon zest for that flavor, but don't throw the white away, use it while cooking the jelly as your natural pectin.

Thanks for the tips.

Probably going to give it a shot after finals finish up next week. I'll report back afterwords.
