I'm thinking about going to commanders palace. Is it worth it or is there something better.

It's damn good.
For atmosphere and food, if you have to pick one N.O. restaurant, I would have to say this is it.

With that said, Stella and August are both for sure better and there are probably another 5 places out there who are probably better on most nights.

Commanders is a true NOLA experience.

Are there better restaurants? Most definitely. August and Stella are both easily better. But Commanders is an experience.

Nola isn't a Cajun food city. That being said, KPauls is the best true Cajun, and Cochon is similar but I guess more modern.

Try Cochon. Its got some Cajun elements, but a lot of things that skew more Southern. Of course, getting in the place is tough. Toups Meatery is a nice backup.

And for the price, the best value in the city.

Muriel's at Jackson Square.

Their blackened redfish is one of the best things I've ever eaten.

I'm getting a little concerned about you coming into town and spending alot of money at a higher end restaurant.

First you asked if it is "worth it".
Then you throw out the old cajun food thought.
Now you need to ask about reservations.

Not trying to make fun of you at all. New Orleans is not cajun. The top 20 or so places in the city don't really serve cajun food or anything fried.

And other than maybe the months of July or August, you should try and get reservations at any good restaurant.

I agree with Commanders or Muriels though. Got enjoy your night and make the best of it.
