Get the red beans. Much more sloppy than New Orleans.

Laysone's meat pies. To much dough, not enough filing

I disagree with the negative comments on Lasyone's meat pies. I love them. There's plenty of filling and flavor. I'm not crazy about the crawfish pies.

That Italian place right across the street.

From a couple weeks ago
Was there 2 weeks ago. There will be a farmers market Sat AM - there is a lady there making fresh meat pies and they were good. There was also a man selling home made cheesecake which was excellent.
Best meal was at Mayeaux's, very good. Had a bone-in filet (which I had never heard of but it was excellent.)
Pioneer pub makes a good bloody mary.
Mama's food sucked, but the band was fun.
Had drinks and dessert at Maglieaux's, live band, excellent service. Food looked good just didn't have enough time/stomach to fit it in the weekend.

I lived there for 2 years and Lasyone's never did it for me. And, if I'm not mistaken, they don't serve booze so keep that in mind in case you wanted a cold one with your meal. I'd rather go to Mamas or Papas and those aren't all that great either. Mariner's is all right for something a little less casual.
All in all though, I'd suggest going have a bite and a drink at the Pioneer Pub or some chinese at Chef Wok.

Pioneer pub for bar food.
Lasyone's for shrimp and grits for brunch, if you have to have a meat pie get one here, but it's not that great.

Eat at Maglieaux's or Mama's/Papa's while in town.
Stop at French Market for gas and get a yam loaf on the way out of town.

Live here in Natchitoches and I agree about Lasyone's meat pies. They're certainly not my favorite. Good plate lunch food there though.
Maglieaux's has some good food. Great people run the place and I enjoy doing business with them.
Pioneer Pub has some good bar food and the owner has a garden that she often uses items out of for specials.
French Market Express....gas station out by I-49 but might possibly have the best plate lunches in town.

Pioneer Pub used to have a decent beer selection for Natty, when i would visit my daughter in college there. Decent bar food too.
