Napa Valley Area

Going to the Napa area over Mardi Gras and wanted to see if I could get some ideas on what restaurants and vineyards are a must.
Also, we are staying at the Silverado resort and spa for the weekend, but want to stay somewhere different Monday-Wednesday...Something that is close to one of the downtown areas, with more in walking distance and that would be a nice change. Any suggestions on any of this are greatly appreciated.

We stayed at the Westin Verasa in "Downtown Napa" and loved it. Very nice with a great pool area. We went to Redd in Yountville, and I can honestly say it's one of the best meals I've ever had. If you go there, bring the kitchen a 12-pack of Sierra Nevada- it will pay off.

Taylors changed hands but I am told new name same menu and prices.
We did Redd and found it and Celedon and the CIA resturant wonderful.

Taylors Refresher is now Gotts Roadside. Yountville is probably the best place to stay if you're interested in eating. You can walk from one end of the town to the other in ten minutes and the concentration of great restaurants is hard to beat. French Laundry, Bouchon, Redd, Bottega, Cantinetta Piero, Bardessono are all really good. Napa proper has really upped its game, particularly over by the river, around Oxbow market. Oxbow is basically a food mall, with a bunch of good low cost places to eat. There's a new development on the river, I can't remember the name, but it's got a restaurant by Morimoto as well as a new place by Tyler Florence. I've spent a lot of time in Napa/Sonoma, so if you have any specific questions I'm happy to help.

Try to make it to Healdsburg if you have time, visit J Vineyards, Simi, and Rodney Strong. Eat at Oakville Grocery while in Healdsburg.
Visit Yountville as well, set up a tasting at Jessup cellers. Many upper end places to dine in Yountville.
Other wineries to consider visiting if time permits:
Sterling
Hess
Burgess
Balducci
Silver Oak
Chandon
Mumm
Cuvaison

Thanks everyone for the restaurant and winery recommendations. If anyone has any hotel/B&B recommendations as well, that would be great. Thanks!

Could be the old Napa Mill area? I've stayed in the Napa River Inn there--very nice. There is a restaurant called Celadon which is very good.

I've stayed in the Napa River Inn in the old renovated mill complex on the river--I think they call it the Historic Napa Mill. Anyway, the hotel is very nice and there is plenty of eating, drinking and shopping (for the women) within easy walking distance.

Just stay in a hotel that has your basic things. Waste of money IMO to stay at a B&B or pay a high rate for all these extra amenities. You are there for the vineyards and restaurants...not your lodging with unnecessary amenities.
I went for a few days last April and the only time I spent at my room was to sleep. Stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn right outside Napa.
