Ok so despite some of the negative things I have read recently on the board regarding Mr. B's, I wanted to give it a whirl anyways and had graduation celebration dinner there last night....so here's my thoughts....

The french bread was nice and HOT and very fresh.

For an appetizer, I had the gumbo ya-ya just to see what everyone thought was so great....and honestly, I'm still wondering because I can go home and get MUCH better gumbo that that stuff. There was a spice that I couldn't pin point in it but I've tasted it before in not so good food. Was definitely not impressed at all. Plus, I'm apparently biased towards cajun food over creole because tomatoes (or red peppers, couldn't figure it out) DON'T belong in gumbo.

For my meal (yes, i know we should have gotten BBQ shrimp, but wearing a bib in public makes me laugh and it seemed like a ton of work to peel those shrimp), I got the filet cooked medium and my bf got the rabbit. The presentation of my plate looked pretty boring and bland and about half of my steak was more on the "well-done" side than medium. The flavor was lacking in a properly seared steak, but the part that was actually cooked medium was really juicy. The green beans were pretty terrible and my garlic potatoes were burnt and very hard.

The bf's rabbit in the accompanying sauce was good but the sauce was just too much. The flavor over powers the meat terribly and you couldn't actually taste the rabbit.

For dessert, we had the banana fosters cake....not too bad at all, actually reminded me of king cake minus the icing.

All-in-all, it wasn't a terrible meal and I definitely enjoyed the company. We will just move down the list of places to eat at in NOLA.

um ok? More like an after taste...I was delighted that it did have a nice kick and had a thick roux.

I tend to agree with your review. I've been to Mr. B's three times (luckily, all were paid for by work) and had a bad meal every time. The last time the coconut shrimp appetizer was RAW inside. We sent it back, and they came out again, raw in the middle. We finally gave up and ordered something else.

But of all the "fine dining" establishments in this city, I can think of probably 50 places I would go to before I go back to Mr. B's. Which is a shame, because I find all the other Brennan's establishments to be wonderul.

This is strange to me, because I've never had a bad experience at Mr B's, it's always been really good.

No arguement here..

I ate at Mr. B's about a month ago.

The service was great as was the bread but it ended there.

The duck springroll appetizer while good was nothing special.

My date had the seafood gumbo and the first words out of her mouth was "yours is ten times better". I tried her gumbo and it was barely room tempature.

I had the BBQ shrimp of course.. While the sauce was great, the shrimp were over cooked and hard as hell to peel.

I thought our meal at Deanies the night before was better than Mr B's..
