What they lack in service, most more than make up for in serious kick arse food, IMO, clearly the best food and bang for your buck in BR for certain. However, I still notice how many people gaze in wonder but look puzzled and hesitant to eat from the trucks. Most of them are older people, and when I say that, I don't necessarily mean old in age, but that is the effect most of the time as I think they still associate it with roach coaches, and haven't gotten plugged in to what they are all about yet.

Is anyone on here or someone you know still freaked out by the whole food truck thing, or maybe in the dark over what's up with the movement? And if so, what's the reasoning behind it?

That Curbside one creeps me out. Most others are ok.

Depends on which one. Most of the ones I've been to seem clean and I'm sure have to go through inspections.

The ones in Austin are really good if you are ever there. There are trailer parks with 10 different concepts all next together.

Yeah, I'm pretty familiar with them. I wish BR had lots like that.. The Odd Duck is serious food. There are just so many to pick from though. Cool place.

Some of the best meals to be had on St Croix(USVI) come from Roach coaches.

ETA a Conch fritter will make your knees weak.

Food trucks seem to run out of certain items toward the end of the day. That tells me that you have a better chance of getting something fresh. They don't have extensive storage capabilities, so once it's gone it's gone, and then they get fresh stuff to replace it.

I honestly don't eat at food trucks because I don't want food made by people who handle money.

Versus say the ex con crack head or meth head clock puncher who couldn't give a rats arse about your food working in the kitchen scratching his nuts and plating your food?

I see the reasoning. Much better when you can't see whats going on.

Most of the trucks have someone taking your money and another cooking and plating. I'm sure when it gets busy though there's some of that, but the way I see it is there are much easier ways to cook food than on a truck. There has to be a lot of love for what they are doing, so I trust them much more than George behind closed doors who couldn't really give a shite.

It's a good burger. I figured I would just give you something to respond too. Board seemed kinda slow.

Had curbside for lunch, was good as always but felt like the patty lacked seasoning today for some reason

We had one at Disney. We called it the Roach Coach.

Had some great stuff, not going to lie. I wish there were more honestly. The same little trailer you see at the fair or whatever.

I wish there were more honestly.

If it isn't popular, you hook it up to a truck and it's gone. Beats building some POS fast food place that gets very little business, it folds and whoever bought/built the place is now out a bunch.

Anyway, I like them.

I wouldn't be hesitant to eat from a food truck, but until yesterday when I saw the Taco something truck on Perkins I had never seen one in BR...Guess they don't hang out close to where I work at in BR.

Whenever I see the word roach associated with food, I think about Southern Belle Sandwich...I know the people that owned it and always thought they ran a clean operation...Guess I thought wrong.

RIP. Those little sandwiches were like crack. You'd keep pounding them at a tailgate party or wedding reception, then later realize you just ate 5 sandwiches (no fattie).

Meh. If you ever went by their place to pickup an order on Friday or Saturday when there was an LSU home game, you would know there were a few bazillion of those little triangles consumed over the years. Of course, I was usually drinking plenty of sanitizer when I was eating them, so maybe that kept me safe.

Good observation. Also, the fact that they offer limited menus, which is usually a true tell tale sign of whether food is being done in house or not, and you can find unique and well thought out flavor combinations, most are doing it right than not. For BR, few offer real wood burning oven cooked pizzas, handmade pastas, and handmade pork belly preserves. The only ones I am really aware of are out of freaking trucks, which is pretty amazing, and the end product is the difference. These people care and are doing it, but then they have to, or else why would people go out of their way to follow them to the ends of the earth in order to get their food if it was the same as everywhere else? Especially due to the almost non existent foot traffic in BR, they have to be better, or people would just go to a place with A/C and tables and not worry about finding where they are on social media. I think when you get down to it, most of these chefs/owners have extensive culinary experience, and this is the only way for a person making 50 to 60k a year to get in business for themselves, because a bank would laugh at them without an investor with the capital to get a loan for a brick and mortar. And that's perhaps one of the coolest things about this besides the food itself. This IS the American dream.
