WinnDixie has a special on landing gear this week.

40lbs chicken for $10.

I'm rethinking things.

FYI

That's a steal. Is it clearance or something?
They trying to move old meat?

I hope not. It's their current weekly ad. Goggle them.

It's leg quarters. That's why it's cheap

I like the dark meat.

You can make stock with it too.

It's no super steal deal, but it's a 1/3 of what it usually is.

As for me, I'll buy a couple bags, brine, then smoke em.

Picked up 40 lbs at 19 cents/lb last week at market basket. Great for the smoker and for gumbo(cook, debone, return meat to pot)

This is actually %100 accurate. Quarters are the hardest to move, and when the chicken storage facilities are near capacity they basically give it away.

Not that great of a deal but okay. I use that for crab bait sometimes, its one of the cheapest. Make you a big ole gumbo with them.

I use them in crab traps too.

Let them sit in the sun for a day before I bait the traps with them.

We bought them for 29 cents a pound all the time 25 years ago. Quarters were the go-to cheap grilling party meat. It's incredible that the feed, fuel, wages, etc. associated with raising the chicken and getting it to market have probably gone up 4-fold, but the quarters often sell for the same price.

Wings back then were even cheaper. They practically gave them away. I remember eating grilled wings for the first time in the shadow of Tiger Stadium and being surprised that they were actually pretty good.
