Ninfas was garbage when it closed. Late 90's early 2000's Ninfas with all the Pinatas was pretty good.

They all went down hill when mama Ninfa sold off all the chains (around mid-00s)

Since then the children of the Ninfa family started El Tiempo and have made a killing. The only "real" Ninfa's left is the original which is still fantastic.

BTW, everyone in Baton Rouge has pronounced Ninfa's wrong forever and it drove me nuts.

If everyone pronounces is it Nin-fas I'll do the same. If I say Neen-fas I'll sound like a dumbass

As long as they serve the beef fajita burrito I will continue to go there. The salsa sucks and well pretty much everything else I've tried is meh, but that beef fajita burrito is one of my favorite meals in town.

I'm still a sucker for the quesos there. Del Mar (shrimp) or the fajita steak with the melted cheese, pico and grilled onions all rolled up in the tortillas tableside.

I remember a buddy of mined raved about those back in the day. I never tried them. Their chimichanga special on Wed I believe is also pretty good. Damn I want Tex Mex now.

This is a good article from the Houston Chronicle on the rise and fall of Ninfa's.
