Barry's pizzas are delicious and I see no reason to add or subtract toppings to whichever pizza you order. I think it's cool having a "character" like Barry making me an awesome pizza as opposed to going somewhere and getting the fake nice and an average pizza.

Location sucks and people get their feelings hurt too easily, so I don't see him lasting a lot longer.

So...... He doesn't like when you add toppings to the margherita pizza? Or does he not like when you change his signature pizzas?

I was thinking about getting pizza for lunch but I don't feel like dealing with some pompous jerk who won't appreciate my business.

He won't let you amend his pizzas on the menu in any way, and you get charged an exorbitant per topping if you create your own. You can get a signature pizza for like $17, but creating/ordering a meatball, pepperoni, and mushroom pizza will run you about $27.

I see. Sounds like a pain. Probably end up at reginellis or fleur de Lis (which are both closer to me).

On a side note, I heard monjunis has pizza now. Any had it?

Bottom line -- if you want to do a "create your own" pizza, go someplace else.

Best post I've seen in a long time. On pizza, anyone who knows what they are doing realizes less is more.

Everyone makes fun of me because I only order cheese pizza.

Changing toppings in not part of the NY pizza culture

I've been to NYC half a dozen times and have gotten pizza at least once every time. I've never gotten a weird look or anything like this owner does for adjusting the toppings on a pizza.

This whole NYC pizza culture thing sounds like the bs that is sushi etiquette nowadays

This is so not true.

Eta...I admit it's been several years since I lived there, but my brother still does, we visit him every so often. Most NY style pizza places up there don't have specialty pies, they have premade pizzas that you can order slices from, or you order what you want. Upper end places have specialty stuff, but most NY pizza places are far from high end.

The new lady running the FOH shut the door in my face after refusing to serve me right at close. I had no idea they closed at 8, and had no clue who this chick was at the time. Seems like if really wanted to get out of that $400k mountain of debt, he would change his attitude and stop turning away customers. I didn't know they were closing up shop, but plenty of people were still eating there.
Baton Rouge has too many options.

The difference in a great steak restaurant not cooking well done steak and this is place, is that the steak restaurant isn't on the verge of closing down. I understand the plight of saying that people "shouldn't" mess with this style of pizza. But it's hurting business. If he's offering the signature pies, you can still enjoy them by design. However, his unwillingness to alter his pizzas is going to cost him his business. He can be "right" all he wants he needs the customer's money more than the customers are demanding his style of pizza at the moment.

Yeah I agree with the others about "NYC pizza culture" not being a real thing. Of corse you can not change toppings at a pizza by the slice place, but if you want to wait they will make you whatever pie you want.

The guy that's owns this place needs to get over himself or take his miserable arse to NYC and open a pizza place where someone may respect his pizza god wishes.

I drive by the place all the time and have never set foot in there based off all the negative reviews.

Yeah, he'll never survive in BR...Did Barry call RI for help, or did someone else call unbeknownst to Barry?

If Barry called, then shame on him. And RI should have given him a bigger outside sign and maybe painted the brick.

Still great pizza though, and no need for topping changes.

Either way, he was boasting to a first time lady in there that just met him, "I got exactly what I wanted out of the show, and that's that"

If enough people didn't know about this place before, then they certainly did with all the national and local exposure it brought him.

The food is good, but the place stays empty most of the time. I'd bet my life savings there is no way he makes it another 12 months with the same attitude he has now.

Another thing was that his son lives in north louisiana, and has for quite some time now. He came down to shoot the show, with no intention of staying whatsoever. I guess TV gonna TV

Barry is an unrelenting dickhead. I had stood behind his pizza time and time again and told many people about it. But once he started to yell at me through e-mails, I told him I would never go there. The guy has no f u c k i n g clue.
