Jacques Imo's sucked. Alligator cheesecake and boudin balls lacked flavor and were basically just fried-cheesiness akin to something you'd get at TGIFridays. The gumbo was bland. The fried chicken was pretty good. Redfish was cold. The sides were unremarkable and they gave very scant portions. It was a huge letdown and I'm an idiot for choosing this place. I was embarrassed. I should have known better.

That's what you get coming here for advice. I always get the fried chicken so I leave happy.

Personally I am not a fan and this place gets BLASTED by locals on this board. I was really surprised at the reactions on here, because it is usually pretty harshly treated around this parts.

Its a fun place for people that don't know any better, but it is overpriced and nothing special. Definitely more a place for tourists.

That sucks. Like others said, it usually gets shite on by the board. This was the friendliest Jacque imos thread I've seen on here

It def. is and I've been one to blast before but decided to soften my stance a little in the last year or two. I guess because it can be a fun place to take out of towners or something.

Or maybe it's the fatigue from the groups who show up and yell at everyone for being food snobs if you are negative on a place such as this.

The only part that surprises me is that you received scant portions. I've been served plates there that could have reasonably fed three people.

So here is the thing with Jacques Imo's - it is a decent choice when:

1) You are going to the Maple Leaf

and

2) Have a large group of mostly out of towners that it would be difficult to transport or shepherd from Dante's or Matt & Naddies (and those only in outdoor dining weather)

Most other decent places within reasonable walking distance are not compatible for large groups.

Most out of towners will find the experience of Jacques Imo's quirky and charming - a real "New Orleans" experience even if it is not the best meal they have while in town. Add in a few drinks and some good music at the Maple Leaf and you'll generally leave those folk with a good memory.

Bottom line - don't beat yourself up.
