The wife and I are headed to Houston for the weekend next month and are looking for sushi restaurant recommendations downtown. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ive only been to one in Houston and it was Uchi.

Did the chefs menu. Basically, we told them anything we didnt like and they brought plates until we were done. About 15 or so courses before calling it quits. One of the best meals of my life

Uchi as said before is top notch. Not downtown (it’s at Richmond and Kirby) but kata robata is as good as any I’ve had in Houston.

Uchi. They have sushi but it's so much more than that.

1. Uchi for modern chic sushi. Small and creative Japanese dishes.
2. MF Sushi also has great sushi that’s fresh and creative.

Avoid places with any sour cream in their “rolls”.

ETA: Avoid places with any cream cheese in their rolls

Freaking amen, add “spicey mayo”.
Uchi and kata won’t have this issue.

Uchi as everyone has mentioned is awesome.

If you want two suggestions not mentioned Nobu is awesome and Roka Akor is under the radar and is very good as well.

Aka on W Alabama is good. Blue Fish if you're looking to stay downtown

Uchi is the top choice.

MF Sushi is your choice

Uchi is good, but its a little Austin trendy.

Kata Robata is also fantastic.

There is also now a Nobu in the galleria area. Have not tried the Houston outpost, but his other restaurants are dam good.

it means it's sort of hipster, and while its good its not all that traditional.

I work for a Japanese company and none of our expats would call Uchi anything but American style sushi.

FYI they prefer Teppay and Kata Robata
