Anyone use the service?

My nephew works for them. So, my daughter and her husband use it. They get 5 meals per week delivered to the house that includes everything needed for a two person meal. Somehow, they had an extra box delivered and gave it to us. It was pretty good. Portions were a little small, but none of it were things that I had tried before and probably never would have made otherwise. Thinking about signing up for 3 days a week since it's just the wife and I at the house now. Make grocery shopping easier.

There have been a good many threads on Hello Fresh and other meal delivery services. If I recall, the posts seemed to be from people who did it for a short period of time and then stopped for a variety of reasons. For HF, folks thought the servings were too small. In general, folks said you really have to commit to eating whatever they send while it's fresh or at least cooking it when it's fresh so it's not wasted. Some said they didn't really feel like eating whatever the meal was, but felt committed to eating it to avoid waste. Some said, their plans would change and they'd end up having to throw out the food.

Food for thought...

I thought most of the meal plans give you options to choose from. I think like 2 or 3 options at the most, which is fine for most eaters I believe. I can't imagine people using meal delivery services are terribly picky. It's not like they're doing anything super exotic.

We only ever used Blue Apron/Hello Fresh/etc. when we had codes sent to us from friends. It's mostly a convenience charge, which I understand people will pay.

They and similar services never included enough protein in my opinion. But generally they are fine on occasion.

I used it for a couple random weeks. It was alright, I did like the fact of getting new random recipes in the house. Just kept all the recipe cards for future.

It was generally pretty good in my experience...just expensive.

Back when they would give away free meals, I got a few weeks of deliveries over the course of a year or so. I liked most of the things we picked.

I love that they give you a nice recipe card. I saved them all and will occasionally use the cards with my own ingredients.

Had some good meals with HF. Like others said it could be a little irritating at times but overall it was a good experience.

We usually did 3 meals a week.

I have been doing Blue Apron for the past 15 or so months.

2 meals for 2 people (weekly=) - price = $66.93

I do think the price is somewhat high. However, the quality of ingredients, recipe provided, and it being shipped directly to your house helps offset the cost.

In my opinion, Blue Apron has the freshest ingredients compared to other similar companies. They also have a GREAT customer service program. I have had a few shipments arrive late, they proactively reached out to me to refund me the money. I have had a shipment or two where a specific ingredient was spoiled or open already (likely due to poor packaging) and they refunded me without any further questions.

No offense but there's not a whole lot of quality in the actual food. You can get much quality at the same price or cheaper by shopping at Whole Foods. You can't tell me that sour cream, sauce, and other condiments are "quality" just because they come individually packaged by these companies.

The price comes from the convenience of not having to think about what you're cooking that night and a guide on how to do it. That's all these services are about.

Like I said in my above post, I understand that I am paying for convenience. But the quality of ingredients does matter compared to other similar vendors and grocery stores. Obviously sour cream is sour cream... However, the quality of meats, seafood, and other specific ingredients that are sometimes hard to find are better than HF or WholeFoods.

I have had scallops and shrimp from whole foods. The quality of that seafood is not good. I very much enjoy the shrimp and scallops that I receive from Blue Apron. So much that I pay a premium price when I see scallops on the menu. I received the best ribeye steak I've ever cooked from Blue Apron. I have yet to find a place around me that has provided such a succulent, tender ribeye.

This is the way we did it.

Do it for a few meals and keep the recipes. Cancel the service, go back when they start bombarding your mail with the “we want you back” promos and keep adding recipes.

Pretty soon, you’ll have an outline for 10 or 15 meals using shite you buy at the grocery for half the cost of Hello Fresh meals.

Well, this isn't true.

The closest one is well over an hour away. Many [people will not have access to Whole Foods.

It's way more than this. It's getting rare ingredients in small quantities that keep you from buying a large amount of something you'll rarely use. Exposing you to things you would never try otherwise. It also helps a person cook more efficiently. The instructions carry over to other dishes and I find myself using ideas in normal cooking I got from these services.

Food quality is great. I enjoyed most of the meals.

I just needed 2 more dinners after I was done eating. Not enough protein.
