The State Bar (old Louie's location). Really great grilled cheese variations. Tomato basil soup is no Chelsea's, but it's serviceable.

Le Madeleine has the best tomato soup, and they do a croque monsieur which is basically grilled cheese with ham added to it. Very good dipped in the soup.

Merchant does a tomato soup/grilled cheese combo that's decent, but not amazing. The soup is more like a red sauce for pasta (but good!).. and the grilled cheese is on regular sandwich bread. It is the perfect amount of food for me, but that almost definitely means it isn't enough food for a normal person.

I swear I'm alone in this, but I never liked their soup much. I always got it mixed half and half with the cream of artichoke soup to thicken it up and tone down the spice. It was too runny for me on its own.

The spice is what made it for me. But I'm a fan of spicy foods.

City Pork Deli & Charcuterie (overpass City Pork) has probably the best grilled cheese sandwich I've eaten at a restaurant. Not sure about if they have tomato soup or if it's any good.

eta: I forgot to mention it's a bacon grilled cheese.

I am almost certain that City Pork & Pie has a grilled cheese served with tomato basil soup.

Probably going to get nailed for this:

Rotolo's bottles their tomato soup and it's actually pretty good.

ETA: I'm sure it's not as good as fresh from a store stuff, but to just keep in the pantry for quick access it's solid.

It's called the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich on the menu. So I guess I'll have to take their word on it. Comes with Swiss, cheddar, and brie cheeses.
