Are you good

This is the key.

I worked as a waiter in college. I made min wage. I was really nice and tried very hard. I just wasn't any good at it.

This will end badly...but I'm interested to hear how it goes. If you lie and say that you've had years of experience, then they're gonna expect you to know what you're doing and be ready to step in without missing a beat. You're going to frick up, not because you're bad, but because you don't "know the ropes". If you frick up a Chili's, no big deal (you're out of a $5 tip), if you frick up at a nice place, you'll find yourself broke and fired.

EDIT: I thought you said Roberto's, not Ruffino's. My Bad.

not true. any of these places train you and stick you in bad slow sections. you might not make it through training but its not a hard job. you gotta be able to sell to make money, if you can sell you will do well

I used to wait tables at DeAngelo's back in the day. Made decent money, and I had no prior experience. They pooled tips there, so if you don't do that great a job, you can still make money.

What will be the average check per table during the shift you work? How many tables will you be assigned? How many times will the tables turn during your shift? What is the average tip rate for the restaurant?

From this information you can estimate the amount of tips you should gross. From it deduct the amounts you will need to pay to the bartenders, busboys and dishwashers. This is the amount of net tips you should expect. Add it to the hourly wages you receive, and you can estimate your income from waitressing.

When I worked at Serrano's when in college:

School In: Probably made $70-85 Sunday - Thursday; $100-150 Friday - Saturday (this is all per shift)

Game Days: $500-800; The most I made was a little over $800. But i worked from 9AM to 4AM, and never once was i without a full section. Also, people would get drunk and just give crazy tips. And some people would buy your table so they wouldn't have to wait. I sold a table to a dentist for around $200. Just crazy

School Out: There would be some weeks where I maybe got two or three tables. Weekends were busier, but not really. Times were tough at Serrano's when school was out. Thank goodness for parents

some of the best times i had was when i was a waiter. good times

Wait.. And you people dont even work 8 hour days? 7 hours is a long time?

I NEVER want to see a single fricking server complain about what they make again. That "below" min wage thing is completly fricking BS.

On average how much can you expect to make waitressing?
at cracker barrel (this was before katrina), i made no less than $100 on the weekend shifts (maybe only 80 friday night) on the week day shifts, i usually cleared at least 50.
