So im trying this out on the food board first because i don't feel like hearing sarcastic comments from the OT...

On average how much can you expect to make waitressing?

TIA!

I would think this pretty much makes or breaks it for you. Although I knew some hoes in college that made decent (college) money at Chili's type places.

If you have no experience then that will probably rule out working at places like Ruth's Chris, Stella, etc.

Plus, since you're new, you'll be working weekdays most likely.

True

I would say that if you work at a chain, weren't a complete frick up, were moderately attractive (no visible boils and had full function of all extremities) you could make between $50-$70/night on monday-thursday.

Yeah, if she's leggy and hot she could probably make decent money at Sullivan's. They seem to care more about looks than service ability.

To answer your question... You can make some good $$$ waiting tables, if youre at the right place. I worked at a texmex place and made $100-$150 on a fairly busy night. (I'm the opposite of good looking and do not have tits)

The correct answer is "not enough".

There isnt a job category in the world that complains more about not making enough.

Girl I know told me that she was making $150 a day at Hooters.

In college I did better bartending than waiting tables, but women always made more. But I tip 20-30% no matter the gender or appearance, but tipping well is typical of plenty of people who have ever had to wait tables.

Little tip for anyone still waiting tables.

There was a psychological study that evaluated the law of reciprocity at restaurants. Waiters who reached in their pocket and gave the table a piece or two of candy along with the check overwhelmingly got better tips than those who didn't. Those that started to walk away after leaving the check, but stopped and thoughtfully took out the candy and put it on the table got an even better tip. It's the exact same sales psychology tactic used by companies that include a free gift when mailing stuff to you, it's proven to increase the likelihood that you spend money (your innate desire to reciprocate the gift).

Another tip, when they ask for the check, bring it immediately and look for when they pay. Don't rush them but pay attention. No sense pissing them off. I learned that when I was working lunches.

My friend go a job at a french restaurant in denver, and he is clearly $200+ on weekends, and about $150 on weekdays.

I am just amazed by the claims of 100-200 a day and the same crowd still will dwell on the one table that didnt add to their fortune. And yes 100-200 a day while you are in college is a fortune. Yet the same people complain about making below min wage. Can we finally just throw that BS out the window since apparently its very lucrative.

I was waiting tables when the "psychological study" came out that said non-chalantly touching your customers at some point during their dining would increase your tip.

Guy I worked with took that and ran with it.

I think he pissed off more customers than he ended up making in increased tips above if he hadn't done so.

Agreed. I work all day every day at a regular job and make $150 a week during the school year. Don't even get me started on pay.

Regardless for the level of experience and education needed thats a shite load of money.

My wife is a graphic designer with 10 years experience and a B.A. and doesnt make that with benefits included.
