For locals, yesterday evening, Dorignacs had about two cases of Ghost that was bottled in November. I picked up a couple 4-packs and it was still awesome.

They also have some 4 packs of Double Dry Hopped Envie.

They probably have some more. The guy's name is Jason.

They must have found those in the back somewhere and just put them out.

I enjoyed the November batch. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Saying it was awful is disingenuous.

Beer guy had the DDH Envie in the back. Apparently, you have to ask for it. I was lucky because I asked for Ghost and he told me about the DDH.

This.

If November Ghost was awful, then you really didn't like IPAs until the recent OJ-looking/tasting craze.

Sometimes, yes. One guys at a WF location I will leave unnamed flat out told my neighbor that if he wanted GI variants, he might need to tip the beer guy a $10 or so every now and then when he was in the store buying other stuff. He was serious.

However, I've found the majority of the time, it is because in order to get good amounts of the "special" stuff, distributors require that a store be able to move X amount of certain regular lineup beers.

Therefore, in many cases, the beer manager at a location might be hanging on to stuff for people he/she recognized as constantly buying other things off the shelves.

In my opinion, that is straight up, honest business. They have to move product in order to get the special releases, so why not make sure those who help you get those releases get first crack.

So the beer guy keeps a talley of who all buys beers?

Also if im in a store buying beer I know what I want to buy. No need to chat up the beer guy for 15 mins.

No it's not. It was a terrible beer that was essentially rubbing alcohol.

This is the problem with reading opinions on a message board. Some people can only give their opinions in extremes. I notice it a lot on here It's either good or it's awful. There is no in between. I guess some people don't know how to distinguish between awful to mediocre to good to great and even in between those.

November ghost was very west coast-ish. If you didn't like that ghost, you probably won't like any IPA's from the west coast. Personally I enjoy different varieties and styles.

Did I say either of the above?

If they care about moving regular craft stuff to get the special releases and care about helping their regular customers, they will start to take note of and recognize familiar faces.

Case in point, at the HEB near my house, a while back the beer manager told me about certain things they had in the back for their regular customers, gave me her card, and said to text or call if I ever want to know what they might have.

In the well over a year since then, I haven't yet called or messaged, but every now and then if I see her, I will ask what special things they have.

It wasn't good. I've got a few left and they aren't getting any better, I know that much.

Thank God for that new yeast, baws.

Maybe we just have crappy beer guys?

I buy beer from two places. On average twice a week or so. Not one of these people have come up to me and said "hey ive seen you in here a bunch, I'd like to let you know that I have some special beer in the back if you'd like some".

I see what your saying but isn't everybody who buys beer in any given store helping those stores move regular product?
