I got some fresh tuna from my brother.
What temperature would you get grill to before putting them on? I want them to finish up rare to medium rare.

as hot as it goes, depending on how thick the steaks are sear for about 30 seconds and flip

The only time I ever did grilled tuna steaks, I put them on at 400 degrees for like a minute and a half on each side, I would have called them medium... So less time than that.

For the record, they were fantastic. Don't know why I haven't done them since.

Well they aren't cheap but fresh market will put them on sale for 9.99/lb on ocassion. Two small filets are about 1lbs if I remember.
